Questions to Ask a Siding Contractor

Every home improvement, replacement or repair project starts with planning, and one of the most serious aspects of planning is choosing the right contractor. The success of your project depends largely on the company you’re working with.

To choose the right siding contractor, it’s important to ask them several questions so you can determine whether you should hire them. Here are some of those questions:

How Long Have You Been in the Business?

A siding contractor who has been in business for several years is more likely to care about their reputation, which is good news for you. Ask them for a business card. When they give you an estimate, it should be on a proper letterhead, where their address and contact information are clearly printed.

Are You Licensed, Registered, and Insured?

A siding or roofing contractor who does not hesitate to show you proof of their license to work in your area, business registration and insurance is a good choice. However, make sure to verify their paperwork with the right offices.

Can You Provide References?

Reputable contractors have no problems giving their customers a list of references or even a portfolio. Call the people on the list and ask about their experience with the contractor. Look at pictures of the contractor’s past projects.

Do You Offer Warranties?

A good contractor carries brand-named products that come with the manufacturer’s warranty. They also back their workmanship with their own warranty. Warranties protect you in case of product failure due to a defect, as well as workmanship errors.

Are All Costs Included in Your Estimate?

You should be able to sign off on everything, which means your contractor’s estimate should include all the costs. No unpleasant surprises in the end. This is why a detailed and complete estimate is a must, and it’s also your proof that your contractor is reputable.
